A week ago, the petition went local at the Marin Farmers Market in San Rafael, CA. Our presence raised awareness to the actual bill, as well as to the proposed amendment.
It was great to see so much support from Marc Levine’s constituents – remember, he is the Assembly member who introduced the rabbit exemption during the bill’s first Committee hearing. In just a few hours, we collected over 300 local signatures in support of protecting all rabbits in the bill.
How many constituents' disapproval does it take for Marc Levine to rescind his request to exclude rabbits? Shouldn't he be listening and working on behalf of all the people in his district, and not just one rabbit farmer?
Furthermore, this bill doesn't just impact District 10, it is a statewide bill! With fur bans in cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles that have no carve outs for rabbits, haven't the people of California already spoken?
Let’s not regress because of the objection of one Assembly member on behalf of a single constituent who wants to be able to continue to peddle his rabbit pelts and “lucky” feet at the Marin Farmers Market!
Spring recess is over! Tomorrow the California Assembly is back at work. Please continue to sign, share, promote the petition and don't forget to contact Laura Friedman to ask her not to amend the bill, and Marc Levine to rescind his request for amendment. There is no such thing as a reasonable compromise. ALL RABBITS MUST BE PROTECTED IN THE BILL!
