7/11/26 Update: We will issue a new petition early next week to oppose the revised application submitted by the developers' attorney to Brevard County Planning on the morning of the County Commission Zoning Hearing held 7/9 (so they did NOT hear the application).
They are now requesting a rezoning from RR-1 (1 acre homesites) to RU-1-11 (55-70 homes). See AI-generated image example (which is NOT the site plan).
We adamantly oppose altering the character of Lake Washington and are asking all residents impacted by this application to submit written statements (Findings of Fact) to the Zoning Board and the County Commission in advance of both hearings. We anticipate the new Zoning Advisory Board Hearing on August 17 after the planning staff has redone their comments and provided guidance to the advisory board.
The successful formula is observed fact + logical connection + conclusion:
Fact Based Examples (Weak Vs Strong)
Weak: "This will flood our neighborhood."
Strong: "My street at [location] already holds standing water for two days after an ordinary summer storm — here are photos from June 12 and June 30. Adding impervious surface upstream of our drainage can only worsen a system that already fails at current capacity.
For now, no need to sign this specific petition as we will close this one once the new one is open. Stay tuned for our communication on the new petition early next week. Thank you for your support!
