LAST CHANCE SALOON: FIGHT THE PARKING COWBOYS

LAST CHANCE SALOON: FIGHT THE PARKING COWBOYS
The Issue
We demand the re-launch of the Private Parking Code of Practice by 30 April 2024 before dissolution of the current parliament. Don't risk extinction of the Code. Let's get it up and running before it's too late.
Private parking companies continue to loot the pockets of hard-working motorists. These cowboys issue roughly 36,000 parking tickets every day generating £3.5 million in cash revenues. The system of misleading and confusing signage, aggressive debt collection and unreasonable fees is designed to extort money from motorists. The so-called independent appeals service is biased and not fit for purpose.
The government has been promising the introduction of a new Parking Code of Practice with fines in private car parks capped at £50, a ban on additional fees and a fully independent appeals process. Legislation was passed in 2019 and the new Code was launched in February 2022. It was quickly withdrawn under a threat of judicial review by the Trade Associations. The government has been kicking the can down the road ever since and nobody knows when the Code will be ready.
