Las Cruces City Wide (K9 Reactive) Grumpy (Submissive) Dog Support

Las Cruces City Wide (K9 Reactive) Grumpy (Submissive) Dog Support
The Issue
Las Cruces, NM has had 3 deaths, 1 arm amputation and NOW over 200% Increase in REPORTED dog bites in the last year. A dog was recently KILLED by another dog at the Animal Shelter Dog Park! They could have Knowledgeable attendants on duty to help in the dog parks city wide to help facilitate proper dog2dog meet & greet to eliminate and educate the people about our highly sensitive reactive dogs. They have been offered to be instructed to hold their own Free monthly Grumpy Dog Workshop, This could be paid by a $1 day Fee per dog to help Support This project to ELIMINATE deaths, fear, and injuries. Or volunteer time in exchange for Supervised Play Care. THESE Dog deaths, mauling's can be prevented! Have you or your dog been bitten? Has your dog bitten?
Animal Service Center of Mesilla Valley's recent stats show that more than half of the dogs are returned because of aggression. They could implement a better hands-on learning program to educate fosters or adopters on what to look for, how to prevent and safely stop aggressive/submissive behaviors before they cause another 6yr old child to be killed by one of their dogs.
Furthermore, there is no program that our own Animal Control can enforce as required by law:
New Mexico State Statue 77-1A-5(8), "The owner has entered the dog in a socialization and behavioral program approved or offered by the animal control authority or refers you to one. ACO currently DO NOT have thier OWN classes & they REFUSE TO GIVE A REFERRAL. They allow the owners to go to anybody whether they are qualified or not.
Why don't We DO THIS as a PREVENTATIVE education city wide, not just AFTER a dog bite.
It should be mandatory for our community's safety, and the safety & emotional health of our pups as well as our own mental health:
First dog bite reported, the whole family should attend a Free monthly workshop put on by one of these qualified entities to prevent further issues.
Second dog bite, the whole family is required to attend a qualified 8wk Socialization, Behavioral, and Obedience Program as the Animal Control is required by NMSA 77-1A-58 when dogs are deemed dangerous. We need to PREVENT that by requiring it on the first bite. If the reactive dog family cannot afford the 8-week class than they should be able to get a voucher as they have for the spay/neuter-SNAP program or able to trade out time or resources for trade to be paid before attending the program.
Our chain pet stores are not allowed to work with known biters(liability), and even our independent trainers and rescues are unwilling to take on these dogs. Even the most responsible families have very few options and without the resources to help them, end up having to kill their beloved family member. April's K911 Academy is willing to help change this! WE NEED YOUR VOICE!
Las Cruces City Council, Lieutenant of LCPD, ASCMV, says they don't have the time, personnel or the facilities, and this is an owner responsibility issue. HOW can we hold owners responsible if they are not Aware of these little behaviors that left uncorrected can lead to bites and attacks? This Can be prevented with awareness, education and effective programs. We need your voice to
How can we change this? Revitalization of our community, dropping bite numbers and having safe and happy companion animals is possible through hands on education and prevention especially when the small seemingly unimportant behaviors are corrected when they first show themselves.
Education/Awareness for Everyone! Las Cruces wide hands-on education for everyone starting with our communities' canine entities, (Animal Control, Animal Service Center of Mesilla Valley, city/county personnel, Sheriff/Police/Fire/Ambulatory, rescues, fosters, vets, vet techs, boarding facilities doggy daycares and every dog trainer in Las Cruces.)
The successful, April's K911 Academy's monthly workshop could be the pilot program to start this.
What would it take for Our school programs to teach responsible pet ownership including recognizing and teaching safe prevention of behavioral issues with hands on visual teaching? We could incorporate programs where the kids can volunteer under instruction, (they do not have to foster the dogs), to help transmute their own or a rescue dogs' behavioral issues by proxy with the Energetic Peeps2Pups K9 Connection program. We even did a pilot program at SNMCF with the inmates. It could work.
Require all day-cares to have at least 1 proven, knowledgeable, and experienced personnel to teach others what to look for, & how to safely correct.
Require all dog parks to have a (volunteer) to help instruct proper integration into the parks with new dogs and supervision to prevent aggressive behavior from progressing into something deadly. Maybe during certain hours & with cage muzzle rental if needed.
Active social media network between dog trainers, ASCMV, Animal Control, rescues, fosters, and April's K911 Academy who is actively pursuing these goals. We need these entities to step up and help us provide these services to our community. Please let your voice be heard. Owner Responsibility THEY say! Let's UNITE & Educate them.!
If you or anyone else knows How we can implement these things, please contact us and let's get these highly sensitive pups help.
PLESE BE AWARE, NOW with the new mandatory Dirty energy 5G Smart meters being put in as they will affect our dogs so watch for health/behavioral changes. Not just in them but our children, environment and ourselves. Thank You & Blessings All.
