Google or its founders should pay Wikipedia $100M annually for using its content

The Issue

Google is a monopoly abusing its power as the primary starting point for search to harm Wikipefia, a non-profit resource written by volunteers.

By serving Wikipedia's (and Wikidata's) content on search result pages with limited attribution, Google is threatening Wikipedia's long term survival. Arguably Google makes over a billion dollars annually through Wikipedia's content.  It should pay the Wikimedia Foundation a small fraction of the value it is diverting from this non-profit.

40% of google searchers do not realize the content is coming from Wikipedia and one study showed that Google's knowledge panel reduces Wikipedia traffic by as much as 80%.  This traffic reduction leads to fewer editors and fewer Wikipedia donors and a deterioration of Wikipedia's perceived value to the world.

Google recently donated to the Wikimedia Foundation in the single digit millions.  This is an insultingly small number, considering the billions in annual revenue Wikipedia creates for Google and the damage Google is causing Wikipedia.
