Maryland Reopen Children's Indoor Sports

Maryland Reopen Children's Indoor Sports

The Issue

We are asking the State of Maryland to allow Gymnastics, Martial Arts, Cheer Dance and all other Children’s Sports Facilities to reopen on June 15, 2020.

Our businesses provide an essential service to our communities. We are committed to keeping kids active in structured and safe environments. We also serve as a safe place for social interaction and emotional connection for our children.

We understand that our state's first priority in reopening is safety. That is also our top priority. Children's Sports Facilities are uniquely positioned to safely reopening because:

1. Our facilities allow plenty of space for structured activities that allow us to facilitate social distancing.

2. Our pre-registration requirements allow us to adhere to capacity limits.

3. Our cleaning protocols create a clean and safe environment.

We take the risk of COVID to our families seriously. We feel we can provide a safe environment while returning our children to sport. We are uniquely connected to the community and through that connection it has become very apparent that  our children are feeling a severe impact socially and emotionally. Our children are beginning to break down. We have always been a place of safety and community for them and they need us now more than ever.  As a community, we are deeply concerned that if this closure goes on much longer, we will see even more devastating impact on our children.

We are respectfully asking that Maryland allow gymnastics, dance, martial arts and youth sports facilities to open at 50% capacity starting June 15th. Let’s get our children back to being connected and  active in safe and protective spaces.
