The Issue

Stand Up for Laredo’s inner-city Youth! #AYUDALOSNIÑOS

The Laredo Patriots youth football team embodies the very heart of our youth—grit, determination, and unyielding passion. These young athletes trained tirelessly, often in conditions that test their resolve, simply for the love of the game and the chance to grow through sports.

However, our journey has not been without its challenges. Despite providing proper documentation, insurance, and demonstrating overwhelming community involvement, we’ve faced numerous rejections when requesting access to safe facilities for games and practices. Our young football players have had to train in unplayable conditions, risking both their safety and their ability to thrive.

Similarly, our dance and cheer teams, who represent creativity and perseverance, have been displaced from their training studio. Yet, these incredible individuals continue pursuing their dreams wherever and however they can both on the dance floor and on the field!

This is why we’ve launched the #AYUDALOSNIÑOS petition. Our mission is to bring awareness to these struggles and rally community support for creating equitable, safe, and sustainable spaces for youth sports and performing arts in Laredo. These kids deserve a fair shot—not just at winning games or competitions, but at fulfilling their dreams and building a brighter future.

By signing and sharing this petition, you can help us make this vision a reality. Together, we can ensure that no child in Laredo has to face unnecessary hurdles to pursue their passion.

Over the past five years, Laredo has invested heavily in community sports facilities.

💰 $7.9 million – Tennis complex at TAMIU
💰 $5 million+ – Soccer field renovations
💰 $12 million – Baseball and softball field upgrades
💰 $10 million – Public swimming pools and aquatic centers
💰 $3 million – Basketball and volleyball courts
💰 $8 million – General Park Renovations
➡️ $45 million in Total.

While these investments are commendable, it’s time to bring balance and fairness to the youth in Laredo.  Although Football and dance are the largest sports industries in Texas. The city of Laredo has failed to value and represent its young athletes who equally deserve opportunities to train and excel in a safe environment. With common-sense investment, our mission can help create Laredo’s Very First Indoor training facility for our at-risk youth.

At the Laredo Sports League, we are dedicated to enhancing youth football and the performing arts industries in the U.S border community near Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.

Our mission is to foster a love for sports and the arts by making high-quality, inclusive, and affordable programs accessible to all youth. We aim to empower young individuals to achieve their fullest potential by providing supportive environments where they can develop their skills, build confidence, and form lifelong friendships. Cultivating a sense of community pride and unity through local events and youth sports activities that celebrate our local talent and heritage.

As a border town next to Mexico, safety is a top concern for our community. Shockingly, only 20% of Laredo’s youth participate in organized sports—largely due to the lack of safe and accessible facilities. Laredo's youth deserve an indoor facility to safely develop their passions and as leaders in their community.

This year, the org has fully scholarship talented young athletes from both south and north Laredo, Texas to participate in the new 7on7 Summer League and Sideline Cheer Season starting April 7, 2025!

The Laredo Sports League is not only a league, but the only youth non-profit sports organization. While other businesses profit from Laredo’s young athletes, our volunteer coaches are committed to advocating for their real needs and raising awareness within the youth sports community. Our mission is to make the children's dreams come true by creating more sports opportunities that will in the near future include their favorite sports and be financially accessible to low-income families while maintaining high-quality training.

Challenges at a Glance:

🚫 Inadequate Training Spaces

Football players practice on poorly maintained fields, increasing injury risks. Dancers lack proper rehearsal spaces, limiting their growth and performance quality. Our sports teams are forced to train in unsafe training environments, exposing them to unnecessary dangers.

🚫 Extreme Weather Conditions

Intense heat and extreme temperatures make outdoor training unsafe. Athletes miss valuable practice time due to unplayable conditions, leading them to seek unsafe alternatives.

🚫 Limited Competitive Opportunities

Without an indoor sports facility, Laredo cannot host major youth sports competitions. This means fewer exposure opportunities for local athletes and lost tourism revenue for our city.

🚫 Lack of Mental Health, Nutrition, & Sports Safety Programs

An indoor center would provide resources for mental health awareness, proper nutrition, and injury prevention. Structured programs integrating these essential aspects of youth development are crucial for long-term success.
