Save our libraries in Hyndburn and Rossendale

Save our libraries in Hyndburn and Rossendale
The Issue
Libraries across Hyndburn and Rossendale could be shut down as part of severe cuts being proposed by council chiefs.
Lancashire County Council (LCC) has warned it may have to close half of its libraries and that none are safe from the axe.
There are five libraries at risk serving the Rossendale council district; Rawtenstall, Crawshawbooth, Haslingden, Whitworth and Bacup.
Another five in Hyndburn could go: Accrington, Oswaldtwistle, Rishton, Great Harwood and Clayton-le-Moors.
LCC says one library in each of its 12 district council areas would meet its statutory obligations.
We say that libraries play a vital role in our communities, from giving people young and old access to books, acting as a community hub and providing community spaces for local groups.
We understand that the county council is facing severe financial pressures, but to strip our communities of these vital community facilities is not the answer.
