The community of Crystal Palace are deeply concerned about the proposals of inadequate funding for our library. The Library Campaign is now the banner of Crystal Palace Mums and for good reasons as you can see from the stats below. We've all got to work together to see that the community of Crystal Palace is treated with justice and to ensure we retain a professionally staffed, properly funded town centre library for Crystal Palace. I have also included some press coverage of the Lambeth cabinet meeting thank you all who attended the meeting and from all the support received from those who could not make the meeting. Kindest Regards, Robert Gibson In the month of September the Upper Norwood Joint Library issued 6185 books, 3222 to children 1841 to adults and 837 to pensioners. In its parents and carers and babies up to two years old Waggle and Hum classes it hosted 271 adults and 284 babies over 9 sessions. In Waggle and Hum for Dads it served 30 adults and 32 babies spread over two sessions. In Sing-a-Story for Babies and Toddlers one year to three year olds it hosted 57 adults and 61 babies and toddlers spread over four sessions. Fiona the children’s librarian carried out two primary class visits and one story telling session to 15 children in a pre-school setting. Fiona also registered a “Record Breaking” 242 to take part in The Summer Reading Challenge and almost 140 had completed by September. The Norwood Society meeting on the Crystal Palace – a sporting history was packed out. It was led by Stuart Hibberd who co-authored of a history of Crystal Palace Football Club and talked about the history of the club and other pioneers of sporting history associated with Crystal Palace. The Library also organised two sessions of Stitch Pitch, a craft group for adults, with six attendances. Tom Hughes, one of the frontline staff, started a monthly life drawing class in the studies area which attracted 12 students. The monthly book club led by an assistant librarian had its full complement of 12 attendees.
