Weldon Angelos started this petition to LA District Attorney George Gascón

Trammell Williams is currently serving a 10-year sentence due to enhancements that double your prison time.

For instance, the underlying offense for which Mr. Williams is currently serving was 3 years. However, because he had a prior conviction, this was doubled to 6 years and an additional 4 years was added to his sentence for simply possessing a firearm even though that conduct was already accounted for in his original sentence of 3 years.

Mr. Williams has already served 6 years, which is double the time for the underlying offense. This should be enough.

Mr. Williams offense conduct can be described as modest. He was driving on the road when a man started road raging against. The man’s girlfriend was staring at Trammell and that angered the man driving. He started yelling at his girl and Trammell. When they were stopped at a light the man following Trammell jumped out of his car and ran up to him. Trammell tried to defuse the situation by warning him he was armed. The man didn’t stop and started to approach Trammell which forced Trammell to fire a warning shot in the air. The man, who was the aggressor, the fled and called the cops.

Trammell was then charged with nonviolent assault with a weapon and sentenced to a decade in prison. Meanwhile, the aggressor walked away from the incident, which the judge described as an aggressor playing the victim.

So, for defending himself and trying to defuse the situation, Trammell received a decade in prison when the actual charge only carried 3 years. This is not just.

Since his conviction, the laws have changed in California as well as the policies of LA District Attorney George Gascón, who pledged to resentence those who are serving these long unjust sentence enhancements that punish people for something they were already punished for in their past or for conduct already accounted for in the underlying offense.

Mr. Williams’ resentencing is supported by United the People, who represent him on his motion, Method Man, Tory Lanez, San Diego Padres Pitcher Keone Kela, reform activist Weldon Angelos, Jonathan Chaney, Ray-J, Willey Norwood, Jr., Billy Earley, Watts Community Development Corp., Daniel Frost of Athletes for Impact, Dre Smith, and many others.

Please sign and share to show your support for Williams and urge DA Gascón to swiftly resentence Trammell Williams.

Thank you
