L'Oréal Paris - Apologise to Munroe Bergdorf

L'Oréal Paris - Apologise to Munroe Bergdorf
The Issue
On 1 September 2017, L'Oréal Paris sacked black trans woman Munroe Bergdorf as a model for their UK "True Match" campaign, in response to valid comments she had made about institutional racism and white supremacy in a Facebook post about the Charlottesville riots. What followed was a racist, homophobic and transphobic online campaign of hate, intimidation and violence towards Munroe, including rape and death threats. She has stated it was the worst week of her life. L'Oréal Paris neglected their duty of care and offered no support, instead choosing to throw her under the bus for the media.
Today, 1 June 2020, L'Oréal Paris posted on their official Instagram account an image of white text on a black background that says "SPEAKING OUT IS WORTH IT" with the caption "L’Oréal Paris stands in solidarity with the Black community, and against injustice of any kind. We are making a commitment to the @naacp to support progress in the fight for justice. #BlackLivesMatter"
This shameless performance of empty solidarity to capitalise on the current Black Lives Matter Movement is a disingenuous cash grab to appease its customers who are concerned about their complicity an unjust society. The fact that they posted this image on Instagram without reflecting on the damage that they themselves publicly inflicted on a black woman for "speaking out" against racism is proof of that.
L'Oréal Paris does not care about black lives. L'Oréal Paris only cares about their bottom line.
I demand that L'Oréal Paris issues a public apology to Munroe Bergdorf for their treatment of her in 2017 and for gaslighting her in 2020, and that they retract their statement on Instagram.
You have eyes. You have ears. And you have a nose that can smell when something's not right from a mile away. Please sign this petition to support Munroe Bergdorf and #BoycottLoreal
