This update tells both Catherine and Amy's stories. Please pay attention to the end of the update where Amy DIES TODAY unless someone saves her (scroll to bottom). She is located at Downey's SEAACA Animal Kill Pound. Go immediately and save her please.

CATHERINE TURNED AWAY FROM DOWNEY
I was on a dog walk this past Monday when I ran into my neighbor Catherine. We chatted as normal but to my surprise she told me she was in the market to adopt another dog. I mentioned she should think about stopping by the Downey Animal Kill Pound or SEAACA Kill Pound and to my surprise she mentioned that she had. I said so did you find a dog and she paused. I mean it was a weird pause. I said, "wait...don't tell me...they turned you away." She literally said with all sincerity, "How did you know?" I explained that the same thing happened to me when I tried to adopt Mimi a 15 year old mini-poodle last July 2021. I told her the event was so outrageous I protested in front of the pound and then decided to start this petition.

I asked if she adopted yet. She said that on that Saturday morning, May 1st, 2022, she arrived at the Downey animal kill pound as it opened. She mentioned that there was a handful of people waiting for the animal pound to open. As people entered the kennels, she was stopped. She was asked if she had an appointment. She explained she had no idea she needed an appointment. She went on to explain that she works all week and really can only get away on Saturdays. She told me the officer who stopped her was very nice and they chatted a little as they stood in the parking lot watching other people go in the kennels who had appointments. She then asked what kind of dogs did they have. The officer said that she might want to GO HOME and look on the Internet. My friend asked if the dogs they had were pretty much pit bulls and other large dogs. The officer said, "Pretty much." I asked if they offered her an appointment later in they day. She said, "No."

She explained that she then left the pound and that the officer had told her that if she really wanted to see a dog today, she could go into the City of Los Angeles where the animal kill pounds were open on week-ends.

I explained to Catherine that I'm putting together a 10 episode podcast diving into what's actually happening at our animal pounds in Los Angeles County. She agreed to play a part and share her story. We are going to go back and continue her search in June. This time, I'll be going with her and documenting her journey to give everyone a behind the scenes journey and a first hand account of yet another local taxpayer who was turned away.

If you or someone you know has had a negative experience with Los Angeles County Animal Pounds since this new Managed Intake system has been instituted by Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn (#HahnTheCohn) and Los Angeles County's Kill Pound Director Marcia Mayeda (#KillPoundQueen), please email me at TheodoreTrentman@gmail.com or text message 213-948-3165.

In other news, Amy will die TODAY May 7, 2022 if no one saves her.

UPDATE: The shelter extended Amy death until tomorrow, Saturday, 5/7. She needs a hero by 3 pm or they will walk her down a hallway and pump poison into her arm. The shelter said there will be no more extensions.

HELP AMY PLEASE.

This is Amy. She’s a senior who was dumped with her sister. Their family said that they no longer wanted Amy and her sister because they fought too much, notice the healing wound on Amy’s face. Her notes indicate additional scarring.

Yesterday Amy’s sister was adopted, and yesterday Amy was given less than a 24-hour notice to exit. She is scheduled for euthanasia today, 5/6 at 3pm (8 hours from the posting of this update).

Amy is SWEETHEART. She wags her tail excitedly when you approach her kennel, and she takes treats so gently (video in comments). She’s a petite lab mix. She doesn’t deserve to die. Please SHARE Amy. She needs a desperately needs a foster.
