As someone of Kurdish descent, the absence of a Kurdish flag emoji is deeply personal to me. It's not just about having another icon on our keyboards; it's about representation, recognition, and respect for over 30 million Kurds worldwide. Currently, there are 268 flag emojis recognized by the Unicode Consortium, yet the Kurdish flag isn't one of them (source: Emojipedia). This omission sends a message that our identity and culture are not valued or acknowledged.

The Kurdish people, one of the largest stateless ethnic groups in the world, have a rich cultural and historical heritage. The inclusion of a Kurdish flag emoji would not only symbolize the vibrant Kurdish culture but also serve as a vital tool for global recognition. An emoji might seem small, but its impact is significant. It empowers individuals in communicating their identity and fosters a sense of belonging in digital spaces.

Kurdish culture, language, and traditions are celebrated in many parts of the world, yet this recognition is not reflected in our digital communications. The lack of a Kurdish flag emoji marginalizes our presence online and does not reflect the diverse world we live in.

I urge Unicode Consortium to consider the inclusion of the Kurdish flag emoji in the next update. This small yet meaningful action would send a powerful message of inclusion and acknowledgment. It recognizes the cultural identity of millions of Kurds scattered across various nations, from Iraq to Turkey, Syria to Iran.

By signing this petition, you're sending a message that every culture deserves to be represented in digital platforms. Help us take a step toward digital inclusivity and cultural recognition. Sign this petition to include the Kurdish flag emoji. Your signature can make a difference.
