KONTRAKTWAL GAWING REGULAR

KONTRAKTWAL GAWING REGULAR
The Issue
Contractualization in the Philippines, typically known as “endo” or end of contract, is the employment for a definite period, terminated by its own terms at the end of such period (Olaguer, 2016). It is mandated in the law, particularly in Article 281 of the Labor Code, that the workers are automatically regularized after six months. Due to that, the employers then avoid the employees to reach the said number of months to prevent them to be regularized through the latter signing the contract. Unfortunately, based on the figures from the Philippine Statistics Authority, 54% of the estimated 31,277 establishments with more than 20 workers employ agency-hired workers or those who are contractuals. Thus, the clamor for the regularization of employees in the Philippines is deafening and will always be loud until it will be finally heard. Others might not know nor understand the depth of the issue but it is nonetheless considered as one of the most controversial problems in employment.
Project Endo Philippines aims to inform as many people as possible about the issue of contractualization in the country. Furthermore, it desires to make a change and challenge the Filipinos, including the youth, to take an action for the marginalized workers.
