Sonika Chauhan's life was cut short abruptly in the wee hours of April 29th 2017 when the car she was traveling in met with an accident in the Lake Market area of Kolkata city. The vehicle crashed, turned turtle, and then stopped, leaving one of its two occupants grievously injured.
She bled to death. She was 27.
The individual who was driving the vehicle is alive and well, and was (as video evidence shows) clearly drinking alcohol on that fateful night. He has evaded justice so far, and refuses to own up to the fact that he was indeed under the influence, and is therefore responsible of drunken and rash driving which led to the death of this young person, whom he calls his "dear friend".
We, friends, family, school mates, and associates of Sonika Chauhan, demand that a Proper and Transparent investigation be carried out, along with the readily available witness statements and evidence, which prove that actor Vikram Chatterjee is Lying about his alleged sobriety on the night that Sonika was killed. We appeal to the Commissioner of Police, and the Chief Minister of West Bengal, to take note, and ensure that the lawkeeping agencies who are handling this case, handle it fairly and justly.
We demand that the authorities interview eyewitnesses, question the hospital authorities as to whether or not the mandatory Blood Alcohol Test was carried out, and to also question Vikram Chatterjee as to why it was more important for him to call a press conference "Before" surrendering at the Police Station. An ordinary non-celebrity would not be able to get away with him, so why is this citizen being given so much leeway? The citizens of Kolkata want answers.
Sonika Chauhan was a woman, an established model, a television anchor, and a fitness enthusiast. She enjoyed dancing, and was popular among her large circle of friends. She was known for her chirpy nature, her bubbly personality, and above all, for her determination. She had a bright future ahead of her, a future rich with accolades which she earned through hard work and pure grit.
That future is no longer there, but her spirit and zest for life remain untainted, and within the souls of her family, friends, and well-wishers who demand Justice For Sonika.
