If you live in Victoria, Australia, and care about pets, community, and a Council making a 24-hr lifetime lockdown on cats without consultation - please sign our petition to Parliament’s Legislative Council here:

We need many signatures to be effective for a Judicial Inquiry - to hold Knox City Council accountable. The personal details of people who join e-petitions will not be published in any form on the website. The website will only show a tally of the number of signatures collected. PO Boxes are not accepted. If you are having trouble entering a flat or unit address, please temporarily turn on 'location services' on your internet, select address, then type unit number in front.
Please share e-petition 433 link - or a QR code to the petition with your email contacts, phone contacts, Facebooks, Twitter, social media accounts, put up small posters in coffee shops, businesses, contact media to tell them your stance and story, talk to people and ask them to sign to gain a Judicial Inquiry. A former Knox Mayor has agreed to be our contact person.
Knox City Council did not consult the community on its 24-hr cat curfew. Knox did not follow its Community Engagement Policy, its Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan and the Local Government Act. $545 fines will impact the most vulnerable, and those struggling from the pandemic. Knox said they will hide the identity of neighbours complaining about a cat, but not a dog.
Council have skewed facts and figures to the Victorian Ombudsman. They also state that the Order was made not on the June 28th vote, but on August 23rd 2021. The June vote was made without community consultation on 24-hours, yet Council states that residents had ‘opportunity for feedback’ afterward in July. After announcement of the Order, 3,288 online responses followed a public call-out on Andy’s change.org petition, (Council says the high response was due to their sms messaging.) The many dissenting views were hidden. Council claims ‘support for a curfew’, which does not mean support for lifetime lockdown, most people meant dusk-to-dawn. Knox website then stated misinformation that the trial dusk-to-dawn 'foreshadowed a 24 hour cat curfew', which it did not. Council did not inform or consult on its intentions, for its 'recommended 24-hours’. Councillors decided for us, without asking us - as 'community leaders' to 'educate' us. We have made a careful reply to the Ombudsman.
Dividing neighbours and families, forcing abandonment, and the deaths of many cats - while Council charges higher rates for enforcement, and makes money from fines.
Keep all your correspondence to-and-from Council, and Councillors, including the recent letters dated 22nd of February of the Order, when Council Meeting vote was on 28th of February for the Domestic Animal Management Plan, containing the Order. February Meeting, press 6.5 below: http://webcast.knox.vic.gov.au/archive/video22-0228.php Watch Council being told that ratepayers will need to pay more to prosecute cat owners, for just a 12-hour difference for lifetime lockdown.
