Kirklees Council to have designated Parking Enforcement officers based in all wards
The Issue
We, the undersigned, call on the council to provide at least one dedicated civil enforcement officer AKA Traffic Warden for each ward across Kirklees, to improve parking enforcement, particularly around schools and known parking hotspot areas Daily patrols of wards would mean more effective parking enforcement.
Illegal and inconsiderate parking creates safety risks for children and other pedestrians, obstructs traffic, and can block access for emergency vehicles. We ask the council to allocate sufficient resources so parking regulations are applied consistently and our communities are kept safe.
BACKGROUND
Parking remains an issue for many living within Kirklees. But is it actually being enforced properly - when did you last see a Civil Enforcement Oficer - AKA Traffic warden in your area? When I raised the question at a Cabinet meeting in September as to how often had Civil Enforcement officers AKA Traffic wardens attended 3 areas within the Crosland Moor Ward in the last 3 months I was told on 17 occassions - is it any wonder that people park where the heck they want to? I suspect the visits will be of a similar number for other wards.
Recent legislation passed by the Government could see Kirklees take on powers around obstructive parking - pavement parking, blocking drives etc from the Police. I have grave reservations as to how this would be enforced. Will it just be ignored?
