Save Edgerton's Iconic Trees in Huddersfield

Save Edgerton's Iconic Trees in Huddersfield
Stop Kirklees Council chopping down 87 mature and iconic trees along Edgerton Road / Blacker Road Junction in Huddersfield.
This petition demands Kirklees Council stop the road widening plans at Blacker Road Junction and remove them from the A629 road widening scheme.
The plans at Blacker Road Junction:-
- Removal of 87 trees; Oak, Beech, Horse Chestnut, Lime
- Loss of wildlife habitat
- Removal of important architectural features & loss of heritage
- Damage to Edgerton & Greenhead Park Conservation Areas
59 trees are legally protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO)
26 trees are legally protected as they are in a Conservation Area
Blacker Road Junction is already an air quality black spot, removing 87 pollution-absorbing trees will make this worse.
Kirklees Council say they have declared a Climate Emergency.
The first impression of Huddersfield is the stunning tree lined Halifax Road (A629). Removal of these trees at Edgerton Road / Blacker Road Junction will irreversibly destroy this gateway into Huddersfield forever.
