I, with other residents from Shawcross, have decided to create this petition to try and prevent the build of new housing and a McDonald’s on Owl Lane, Dewsbury.

I am not against development, or McDonald’s but I am however against the impact it will cause on the housing and families in the area. We as a community, are objecting to the noise created by idling cars. The noise from speakers which may be heard from inside our homes. The noise from cars coming in and out of the drive through during the night. Objecting to the lights from the McDonald’s signs, which most of us will be able to see from our windows. Objecting to the increase of traffic that will be caused on what is already a very busy crossroad. Objecting to the loitering and littering in the car park, which also goes back to the “noise” issue. Objecting to having a McDonald’s placed opposite a primary school, encouraging obesity. Making it very dangerous for our children crossing the roads when it’s busy. Objecting to the smell that will linger, especially come summer when the locals have windows open, and want to hang washing on the line.

There are 7 McDonald’s in a 5ml radius from Shawcross. Another is unnecessary.

Next, is the issue of new builds on Owl lane. Our schools are already full to the brim in the area. So adding more families, that’s just going to be challenging for those already living in the area in getting their children into desired schools. 
The area is already over developed with houses near the stadium, the roads are over used and stretched at peak times. Using green areas and turning a small community into a blend of Gawthorpe and Osset and losing community identity by stretching resources like schools. Many of us in the area, are fond of walks, bike rides, dog walking, wildlife watching. Destroying this by building more is not what us as a community want.
