PROTECT AND EXPAND VIA

The Issue

WHAT's AT STAKE:
VIA is a pilot on-demand rideshare service that connects Link light rail riders to and from five transit hubs in Southeast Seattle and Tukwila, running from April 2019-May 2020.  These hubs include Mount Baker, Columbia City, Othello, Rainier Beach, and Tukwila International Blvd.  At these hubs, riders can catch light rail or access one of the other 14 bus routes. VIA is like a very inexpensive Uber to Light Rail.  VIA to Light Rail is safe, comfortable, and fast - it saves riders 1 to 1.5 hours each way.

This pilot project was funded by King County Metro, City of Seattle's Transportation Levy, and Sound Transit.

VIA exceeds expectations

Not Just Regional but National Solution

This wonderful service IS AT RISK TO CEASE OPERATION at the end of April/May of 2020, putting hundreds if not thousands of frequent riders at physical risks by walking to and from Link light rail transit stops, as well as increasing car volumes on the road and parking demands!

WHY IT MATTERS:
VIA has achieved increasing popularity among transit riders because it provides easy, safe and reliable connecting transportation to and from Link light rail. VIA connects riders to jobs, education, health care, family, and community.
Ending VIA makes these connections much more difficult, if not impossible.

The end of this service will mean more cars in the streets, less safe for travelers and regular transit riders having to walk to bus/Link stations, especially after dark and winter months.  The costs are minimal to keep this important service available for our family members, especially the more vulnerable residents of our community such as youth and the elderly.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:
We need to tell our elected leaders in the City of Seattle, King County, King County Metro, and Sound Transit to protect and expand VIA service.  Our public safety is at risks, our carbon footprint must be minimized.  So far, King County Councilmember Girmay Zahilay and Seatac City Councilmember Takele Gobena have publicly supported this petition.  More elected leaders will be updated real soon!  Please lend your name to this petition so that elected leaders can listen and meet our needs and demands.  Please also share this petition in your circles of influence via various social media platforms.  The results and updates of this petition are being shared with our elected representatives.

Let's make our voices heard.  VIA makes Light Rail VIAble!
