First of all many thanks to all of your support. We submitted the online petition recently to ask the council to scrap the renovation plans. Councillor Kat Boettge also proposed scrapping the plans or alternatively await British Heritage’s outcome regarding the application by Kat Boettge to gain a listed status for the chapel at the recent council meeting, both failed as not one other councillor was prepared to support it. The Town Council is due to address the petition at the upcoming meeting on the 12th. However, after having submitted the online petition on the 29th of January, the Council has informed us last Thursday that they would only consider the petition as valid if 10% of the local electoral register had actually signed it. We then, as a last push, asked for more support on social media sites. And many thanks to all of you who helped us. We also went out on the streets in Kimberley asking for signatures; as a results we managed to get a total of 773 signatures of which more than 460 are from Kimberley, which should cover the 10%. We still could not guarantee that all of them are on the electoral register. Anyway, when delivering the additional signatures to be added to the submitted petition, the council then informed us that they would not accept this addition, but that we would have to submit them as a separate petition. It seems very clear that the council is not open to discuss or consult with us. We are sincerely disappointed as councillors are elected to represent the community, it is therefore seriously concerning that the council failed to listen to the people they supposed to represent. So what now? We are currently looking into the legality of re-submitting the petition (including all signatures). We will keep you posted. Many thanks again for your support.
