Killian Crossing: Urge County Commissioners to Reconsider Proposed Boundary Adjustment

The Issue

Our homes in Killian Crossing, where we have been shaping dreams and aspirations for our family, is under the direct impact of a proposed boundary adjustment that would shift our residence from Lincoln County to Catawba County.

This sudden proposition blindsided us, as it would not only cause us to change school systems, deeply impacting our children's education and social subsistence but it also threatens to lower our property value. Our residences in Lincoln County are more than just houses; they are our family homes, testaments to countless memories, sewn in the fabric of belongingness and community. With this proposed change, our homes will be reduced to an arbitrary data point on a map, devoid of the consideration it rightfully deserves.

What’s more, these abrupt boundary changes can lead to:

  • Educational disruption: Lincoln County’s school system was one of the main reasons why families moved to Killian Crossing. The proposed boundary shift would disrupt the educational path we all had planned for our children and potentially force us to seek costly alternatives to maintain access to the quality education we prioritized.
  • Decrease in property values: This change risks not only our financial stability, but also undermines the investment of our residents, who rely on their property as a key asset. The loss of value would not only harm individual homeowners, but have a broader economic impact on the local area.
  • Community Harm: Many of us moved here for the services that Lincoln County offers, and this change would create significant upheaval and destabilize the sense of community we have painstakingly developed over the years in Lincoln County, the place that we call home and live our lives everyday.

Through this petition, we are urging the county commissioners to reconsider their decision and see beyond statistical or financial conveniences. A monumental decision was made without proper notification or engagement with affected residents. This lack of communication erodes trust and undermines the democratic process that should govern such decisions.

Let us strive to uphold the sanctity of our homes and keep the spirit of our neighborhoods intact. Sign this petition, stand with us, and let our voices matter in the decision-making process.
