Subject: Community petition requesting urgent support for road safety and speeding concerns in Littleworth Worcestershire.
Dear Nigel Huddleston and Linda Robinson.
We are writing on behalf of residents of Littleworth Worcestershire to;
Raise serious concerns about the permitted speed limit through the village of Littleworth. These concerns are affecting the safety, wellbeing, and confidence of local people.
Residents have reported concerns about the speed of traffic flowing through the village. There are several blind bends, the road speed should be reduced to 20mph, not just when the school drop off and pick up times commence (as is the current situation which currently fails to work).
We ask for an increase in speed signs, repeater speed signs and or traffic calming measures to be introduced.
Recently a pet was killed on a side road in the village. We are not claiming that the vehicle involved was speeding. Rather, this incident highlights the inherent dangers of roads and the potentially fatal consequences, whether or not road users are complying with the rules.
A key issue is the speed of vehicles entering Littleworth from each extreme edge of the village. It takes too long for drivers to realise their speed and adequately slow down.
Residential houses exist along the entire primary road through village. When neighbouring roads, one for example, the B4084 become clogged, traffic pours through our small village road due to SAT NAV rerouting drivers.
We respectfully ask that you work with the relevant authorities to take practical, visible and timely action in support of our village.
Residents specifically request:
A reduction in the general speed limit along the entire length of the main road and to include the side roads. Increase the presence of speed warning signs and the monitoring of traffic speed over an agreed period of time.
We enclose a signed petition from local residents, in support of this request. We would be grateful for acknowledgement of this letter and for a meeting or community discussion with residents, the local councillor, the MP and the police at the earliest reasonable opportunity.
Yours sincerely,
Thomas Aldington and Eduardo Zazueta Murrieta
On behalf of residents of Littleworth Worcestershire.
Petition to the House of Commons, the local councillor and the relevant local policing authorities.
The petition of residents of Littleworth and the surrounding area declares that residents are concerned about traffic speed and the effect it is having on safety, wellbeing and confidence within the community.
The petitioners therefore request that Nigel Huddleston and Linda Robinson raise these concerns with the appropriate Government, local authority and policing bodies, and that the local police review the evidence, improve communication with residents, and consider proportionate action to address the concerns raised.
