This afternoon (24th) the pile driver prepared to drive the first river pile for the Central Access Scheme bridge....and anti-CAS protesters dived in & stopped it! Shame on Kilkenny County Council that it had to come to this! As one campaign supporter aptly put it: "This is like a prisoner on death row being told: "Good news, we're hearing an appeal on Saturday. Bad news, your execution goes ahead today." .This is a disgrace for democracy. #savekilkenny An emergency meeting of Kilkenny County Council will take place in County Hall, John St, Kilkenny at 11am on Saturday 26th July for the purposes of voting on a motion to review the Central Access Scheme. Anti-CAS campaigners are calling for a halt to all works until an independent review is held...but ultimately a complete abandonment of CAS. Why throw good money after bad on a scheme that the citizens of Kilkenny clearly do not want. Please come down to County Hall from 10am on Saturday to support the campaign. The protest at the construction site is in its third week and has been 24/7, as always, more people are welcome, even to give a couple of hours of support. Kilkenny County Council have put out in the media that each day delayed is costing 13,500 euro, majority think it's money well spent to ultimately save Kilkenny.
