Kick Out Injustice: Fair Pay and Accountability for Belize’s National Team!
The Issue
Petition Overview: We, the supporters of Belizean football, stand in solidarity with the players of the Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) and call on the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) to reinstate fair financial compensation for our national athletes and demand accountability from the FFB leadership.
Why This Matters: Recent reports have highlighted that the per diem for training sessions has been reduced from $100 to $50, and the $350 game fee has been eliminated altogether. This significant reduction in financial support has placed an unfair burden on many players, who juggle their professional commitments and personal responsibilities while representing our country with pride. Unlike professional footballers in other nations, many BMNT players do not receive compensation from their employers during national team duties, making this cut even more unjust.
Moreover, the FFB's strategic plan for 2023–2026 reveals a total budget of BZD $20,800,000.00, with BZD $5,200,000.00 allocated to the National Teams Program. Additionally, BZD $6,200,000.00 is allocated to operational costs, and BZD $100,000.00 to governance. Despite these substantial funds, players have seen drastic cuts to their compensation. These circumstances highlight the need for greater clarity and accountability regarding how these funds are allocated.
Our national team represents Belize on the international stage, showcasing our talent, resilience, and national pride. The players sacrifice their time, energy, and often their livelihoods to wear our colors. It is only right that they are compensated fairly for their dedication and hard work.
What We Demand: We urge the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) to:
- Increase the per diem for training sessions and game fee to a fair and reasonable amount that aligns with international standards.
- Conduct an independent audit of the FFB’s financials to provide clarity on the allocation and use of funds.
- Ensure that players are adequately supported, so they can focus on representing our country without financial strain.
Sign this petition to show your support for Belize's national football team and demand fair treatment, transparency, and accountability for our players.
Together, let’s ensure our athletes receive the respect and support they deserve.
