We're making progress.
Since this petition started 2 days ago, we've gained over 2,600 signatures! Our community has spoken and it's clear, this resource is vital and needs to remain FREE. I'm overwhelmed by our progress and how many of you have signed and shared, keep it up!
After those who have signed this petition and others in the community spoke up, Khan Academy and the AAMC have addressed us, stating that the retiring of the course has been extended over 2 months, from 7/15 to 9/30 (https://twitter.com/khanacademy/status/1271581184791896068?s=20 https://twitter.com/AAMC_MCAT/status/1271517117897195525?s=20
This is a huge step, ensuring that students currently studying for and taking the MCAT this season will have a free and fantastic resource.
We ultimately want and need a long-term solution and buy-in from these institutions however, so please keep up the momentum by signing and sharing.
It's also time to use our thousands-strong platform and transition into reaching out to both Khan Academy and the AAMC. If anyone has ideas or advice about how we can convert our momentum into solutions, or would like to become more involved, please let us know! (keepkhanacademymcatfree@gmail.com).
Here are a few key items we're thinking about and asking for:
-Information and transparency surrounding what KA and the AAMC has planned for the materials after the end of this testing season, 9/30/20.
-In order to focus financial efforts, information from Khan Academy regarding specifically what it would take to keep the resource alive.
-Alternative work-arounds to keep the KA MCAT resources alive in the community.
-Curation of other rigorous free MCAT prep resources (see twitter thread: https://twitter.com/_bonewizard/status/1271480018275794947?s=20).
Thank you all, again. I truly believe that we can work together to help remind KA and the AAMC how important free MCAT prep is, especially for URM, BIPOC, and low-SES applicants. Thank you for lending your voice.
