Wicker Park Bucktown Community started this petition to First Deputy Superintendent of Police Deputy Superintendent Eric Carter

The North Milwaukee Ave Entertainment District has taken a wrong turn in the past year.  It has become a Block Party with open liquor, selling drugs, traffic obstuction, blasting music, and increased violence.  The atmosphere during the weekends promotes an environment of lawlessness and brazen illegal activity with zero consequence.

Out of that complete disorder, we have seen increase in robberies, armed battery, shootings, carjackings, intimidation and threats to locals, staff and doormen. This all culminated into a mass shooting, FOUR GUNMAN, 30 rounds, 5 people shot, and one murder.

Our residents and businesses do not feel safe. People are leery of walking their dogs, being outside and employees do not feel safe walking to their cars even with security.

We have seen a top tourism Chicago destination neighborhood community with thriving business turn into a street with vacant storefronts and headlines that read "Mass Shooting".

There is a general feeling of frustration and wonderment in how our city leaders can stand by and let this happen here as well as across the "City that Works".

The overworked and resource stretched 14th District has worked closely with the community looking for our own solutions. We are all in agreement that the cornerstone of restoration in the community is Reinstating the Wicker Park CPD Team and need support from our Commanders, Alderman and City Leaders to Restore order and curb the massive spike in crime and violence.

With Sincere Hope,

The Wicker Park / Bucktown Community
