Kevin Williamson: Please Release the Stu Macher Deleted Scene!

Kevin Williamson: Please Release the Stu Macher Deleted Scene!
The Issue
For decades, Scream fans have kept one question alive: What really happened to Stu Macher?
Since the original film in 1996, Stu has been one of the most iconic characters in the entire franchise. His personality, his chaos, and Matthew Lillard’s unforgettable performance helped define what made the first Scream so special.
For years, the franchise itself played into the idea that Stu might still be alive. Between interviews, fan theories, subtle references in later films, and constant speculation within the horror community, the question of Stu’s fate never really went away. Fans kept that conversation alive for nearly three decades.
That’s why the way Scream 7 handled it felt so disappointing.
Going into the theater, many of us thought the movie might finally give us what we want: Stu Macher alive. There were hints and moments that made it feel like the story might finally acknowledge what fans have been talking about for years. Instead, the film shuts the door on it completely. It tells us Stu is dead and even pokes fun at the fans who believed he might still be alive. The film says Stu lives on “in spirit,” but makes it clear that the idea of him surviving was something only “dumb” fans would believe.
For a fanbase that has supported this franchise for almost 30 years, that moment felt frustrating.
What makes it even harder to ignore is that Kevin Williamson himself has spoken about a filmed Stu Macher coda that was never released but shown to test audiences. Kevin stated that those who saw the test footage, disliked Stu Macher being alive. My question is, who were these test subjects and why are they lumped in with the majority?
This petition isn’t about attacking the filmmakers or rewriting the story. It’s simply about asking Kevin Williamson, the creator of Scream, to consider releasing that Stu Macher coda footage so fans can finally see it.
Stu Macher helped make Scream what it is today. Fans have kept his legacy alive for decades.
All we’re asking for is the chance to see that missing piece of the story.
If you’re a Scream fan who has ever debated the Stu theories, defended the idea that he might still be out there, or walked out of Scream 7 wishing the franchise had handled it differently…
Sign this petition and help show that Stu Macher still matters to the fans.
