Hello BringJoshHome signers, all 241,351 of you! We were and still are completely amazed and grateful for the support we have been given by you all, the media and the people closest to our Josh. We claimed 'victory' on here last year, and Josh was due to return home to a new care provider in Cornwall in February. There were a few last minute problems and his return was delayed. It is now set for mid June, just in time for summer on the Cornish beaches! Josh continues to be well cared for and loved in Birmingham, and we visit him every weekend. Between us now we have travelled over 180,000 train miles to 'give him a hug' It never gets easier leaving him behind, but we take great comfort in seeing him cuddled up to his carers when we do leave and travel home. Josh has been calm and happy recently, it's as if he knows things are happening. His new carers back home in Cornwall have been chosen and trained 'team Josh' they shall be called! They visit him regularly in Birmingham as well and he has begun to get to know them as part of the transition process. Throughout this journey we have met several other families in similar situations, and I would like to think that we can all help and support each other, and will continue to do so when Josh is settled back in his new home in Cornwall. If you would like to see what we, Mencap, Respond, The Challenging Behaviour foundation (CBF) and the media have been doing to raise awareness please just type "Joshua Wills Autism" as search words and you will see. Last month myself and 4 other families handed in our petitions (totalling 300,000 signatures) to No.10 Downing Street calling on the Government and the next Government to take responsibility for ensuring that national and local government and NHS England keep their promise to move people with a learning disability out of assessment and treatment units and closer to their homes. There are currently 3,230 children and adults with a learning disability in these units. Here is a link to the short film I have produced of the day
https://youtu.be/NVns_crJ7Mc
It features on "The films of Joshua Wills" which also has short films on it of Josh and Tianze Ni who is another brave young man away from his Mum and Dad.
Thank you all again, it's not over yet, but we could not have got this far without your support both here in the UK and all around the world. I promise the next film I show of Josh will see him running free along his favourite place again - the beach, reunited with his whole family who love him more than words will ever say. Phill Wills.
