The Family Frontiers team had meetings with two key ministers who engage directly with citizens affected by these laws, namely Dato' Saifuddin bin Abdullah (Minister of Foreign Affairs) and Datuk Seri Rina binti Mohd Harun (Minister of Women, Family and Community Development). During the meeting, Family Frontiers briefed them on the case and the challenges on the ground, and our hopes for them to raise this issue with the cabinet this Friday to consider withdrawing the appeal. We are aiming for at least 50,000 signatures by then.
Minister of Communications and Multimedia Tan Sri Datuk Seri Annuar Musa has also acknowledged the importance for Malaysian mothers' voices to be heard and noted that Cabinet is the right forum to look into the matter in the spirit of Keluarga Malaysia.
After receiving the notice of appeal from the Government, Family Frontiers immediately launched a petition, and in less than 12 hours, had received 10,000 signatures. There is public support for the government to withdraw its appeal, and to accept the High Court's decision. The Malaysian public recognises the injustice of the situation and wants to see justice done. We will be submitting this petition to the Government soon. So, the more signatures we get the better.
