The Issue

In recent weeks, federal immigration agents have killed two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis: Renee Nicole Good, a 37‑year‑old mother of three, and Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37‑year‑old ICU nurse who cared for veterans. In both cases, federal officials rushed to justify the use of deadly force. In both cases, publicly available videos and statements from local leaders have raised serious questions. And in both cases, the agents involved have not been publicly named or held accountable.

Now, the U.S. Senate is facing an end‑of‑week deadline to pass government funding bills that include money for the Department of Homeland Security—the agency that oversees ICE and Border Patrol. Congress is being asked to keep funding DHS while investigations remain contested and accountability remains absent.

This is a moment of moral clarity for Kentucky.

We call on Kentucky’s U.S. Senators—Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul—to vote NO on any funding package that includes DHS/ICE funding until there is full accountability for the killings of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, and other abuses of power in federal raids across the nation.

This is not a call to shut down government services that protect people. It is a call to stop writing blank checks to an agency whose operations have resulted in civilian deaths without transparency, consequences, or reform. Funding is leverage. Congress has the responsibility to use it.

Kentuckians can hold different views on immigration policy and still agree on this basic principle: no federal agency should be above the law, and no senator should reward lethal misconduct with more money. If DHS wants continued funding, it must first commit to independent investigations, public identification of the agents involved, and prosecution wherever the evidence shows criminal wrongdoing.

Alex Pretti dedicated his life to saving others. Renee Good was described by her family as kind, compassionate, and loving. Their lives mattered. Their deaths demand more than statements and spin.

Senators McConnell and Paul: stand for accountability, due process, and the Constitution. Vote NO on DHS/ICE funding until justice is real and verifiable.

If you are a Kentucky voter who believes public power must come with public accountability, sign now and make your voice heard before this week’s vote.
