Kentucky: Don't make fluoride in our water optional — Protect Our Kids’ Health

Kentucky: Don't make fluoride in our water optional — Protect Our Kids’ Health
The Issue
As parents, we want to protect our children’s health—and that starts with keeping safe, proven public health measures in place.
One of those is fluoride in our water.
But now, that’s at risk.
Recently the Kentucky House passed House Bill 16, which would make community water fluoridation optional.
If it becomes law, each local water system will get to decide whether to continue adding fluoride—putting kids’ dental health at the mercy of local politics and budgets.
This bill passed 68–29, despite bipartisan opposition and decades of research showing fluoride’s effectiveness in preventing tooth decay, especially for children.
Fluoridated water helps protect kids—particularly in rural and low-income areas where access to dental care is limited. Removing fluoride from public systems means more cavities, more pain, and more costs for families who are already struggling.
We’re calling on the Kentucky Senate and Governor Beshear to reject this harmful bill and keep fluoride protections in place across the state.
Don’t leave children’s health up to chance. Keep fluoride in Kentucky water—statewide.
The science is clear. The benefits are proven. The time to act is now.
