Claire Endaya started this petition to Kentucky Court of Justice and

David McAtee was the owner of “YaYa's BBQ” located in Louisville, Kentucky and was shot and killed just after midnight on Monday, May 31st of 2020. The incident took place on 26th and Broadway, in the parking lot of “Dino's Food Mart,” (where he would normally set up his BBQ stand). It’s been stated that McAtee was not an intentional target, but was hit and killed as a National Guard (who did NOT have his body camera on) opened fire on a crowd that was gathered inside of the same parking lot.

On the following day at around 12pm on June 1st 2020, protesters were gathered at the site only to find McAtee’s body still there. His body was left for nearly 12 hours.

McAtee was a known community figure and even known for providing police officers with FREE meals. Although it may have been an “accident” that he was shot, he DID NOT deserve for his body to lay on the ground for nearly 12 hours.
The authority figure responsible for his death has been terminated from his position. However, this is not enough.

When will our black community ever receive justice? Authority figures NEED to be convicted the same way that actual citizens would if they were to commit a crime. Our justice system is nowhere close to just, and it NEEDS to come to an end.

Please sign this petition so that the individual responsible for killing David McAtee receives an ACTUAL punishment such as a conviction, rather than just a termination.

The world we live in is disgusting and things needs to change, NOW.
