Dr. Mac tweeted today about 8 new org's that adopted internet tech in 1981. How progressive they must have been. But is that really the case? Dr. Mac's admiration is a classic example of the Survivorship Bias. Sure those 8 are made out to look like prescient adopters of the bleeding edge. Is that really the case though? Not if you remember HD-DVD, Laser Discs, Os/2, Beta or other technologies that died a relatively undignified death at the hand of progress. There's no doubt that e-readers are a field that is undergoing great growth. However, we're at the ground level of this technology, maybe the middle floor (Franklin E-readers were ground-level). We're far from the top. If Dr. Mac wants to experiment with technology, all the more power to him. That's admirable.
