Kent County Council (KCC): Please install a pedestrian crossing at Bessels Green
Kent County Council (KCC): Please install a pedestrian crossing at Bessels Green
The Issue
Urgent road safety measures, including a pedestrian crossing, are needed at Bessels Green in Sevenoaks to prevent a serious collision. My 11-year-old son recently had a near miss crossing the A25 after alighting from his school bus, and we are aware of other children who have had similar experiences.
This stretch of road in Bessels Green is one navigated by many school children, residents, and other members of the community. It is currently unsafe to cross the road to navigate the walk to bus stops, schools and elsewhere. This is a busy main road and is used by articulated lorries and other large vehicles to access the M25 and other major roads nearby. Residents fear a serious accident is inevitable unless urgent action is taken.
Residents have raised this issue numerous times with local decision makers, and despite support gaining momentum in the last few years, including that from Chevening Parish Council and several Sevenoaks District Councillors, KCC are questioning the need for a crossing at all.
One near miss is one too many. We cannot continue to put our children, residents, and other vulnerable people in our community at risk crossing this road. Please sign our petition urging KCC to instal a crossing on the A25 at Bessels Green to protect pedestrians and other road users.
