Eliminate the Texas Tampon Tax

Eliminate the Texas Tampon Tax
The Issue
Who we are:
Hormone University aims to increase knowledge surrounding hormonal health. We work tirelessly to increase awareness of women’s health through expert interviews and real stories - our aim is to help others manage hormonal imbalance and create a positive social impact by providing access to free menstrual products.
Why we are launching this petition:
During the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 20 million Americans have become unemployed, with women constituting the majority.
Yet, even before the outbreak, nearly two-thirds of low-income women could not afford menstrual hygiene products.
The tampon tax is one of the key reasons, and we are here asking for a much needed change.
In more than 30 U.S. states including Texas, tampons and other period products are classified as “luxury goods” and are not exempt from the taxation that many other essential products such as food and medicine are. Women spend an estimated $150 million on these taxes each year, and for individuals on a tight budget, it prevents them from obtaining an important basic necessity.
The tampon tax is promoting sex-discrimination and creating an additional burden for the most vulnerable. No woman should have to choose between food and menstrual hygiene.
What can you do to help?
Join us in protesting this abhorrent and antiquated tax in Texas. Sign this petition, and together, we will fight to achieve menstrual equality.
