KSU Housing: Values Money More Than Students?

KSU Housing: Values Money More Than Students?
The Issue
We, the on-campus residents of Kennesaw State University, are dissatisfied with certain changes that were recently sprung upon us by KSU Housing. We are seeking a valid response regarding:
1. The sudden, unexplained increase in rent for the upcoming school year (2016-2017) with no noticeable changes or improvements to the dormitories.
2. The removal of the returning student discount (residents who had lived on-campus in the past received a rent reduction).
3. The untimely notification that informed residents of crucial changes regarding housing for the upcoming school year. For example: Not notifying residents who were ineligible for lease renewals.
4. The extremely limited and expensive on-campus housing options for upperclassmen as a result of Kennesaw's decision to change their only diverse, affordable dormitory, KSU Place, to exclusively freshman housing (http://theodysseyonline.com/ksu/open-letter-ksu-housing/310394)
With this petition we seek to, at the very least, receive adequate explanations for these changes and, in the end, hope to make KSU Housing reconsider them completely. We see the recent actions of KSU Housing as a lack of respect and consideration for its patrons. Many of us who live on-campus do not come from families with an abundance of money, and we depend on financial aid to stay afloat. We love KSU and want to continue our education here, but these recent changes are making us wonder if KSU cares more about our money than the expansion of our education.
So, KSU Housing, why? Why all these abrupt changes that affect us so negatively? And why did you spring all of this on us on such short notice? Your students, your patrons, and your supporters beg you to shed some light on these issues, so please address our concerns. You are more than just a business: you are an institution that shapes young minds each and every day, so we hope you take a moment to realize the bigger picture. Thank you.
