Keep Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant Permanently Closed Demolish It

The Issue

I am driven to create this plea due to the escalating concerns surrounding the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. For me, this issue is deeply personal. I feel the Russian military has been using terrorism tactics, perhaps to obliterate public support for the closure of problematic reactors equivalent to Chernobyl.

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant is the biggest in Europe, situated only 200 kilometers from the war zone in Eastern Ukraine. Even without direct attacks, war vibrations could disrupt the operations of these nuclear reactors, significantly increasing the risk of radiation leaks. According to the World Nuclear Association, this plant contains six reactors, and is one of Ukraine's largest power suppliers, providing around one-third of the country's electricity. Despite its crucial role in the country's electrical supply, the impending danger it poses due to potential mismanagement or sabotage can't be overlooked.

Given the significant risk and the profound consequences, it's crucial we rally to prevent the reactivation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. A repeat of the Chernobyl catastrophe is not a scenario anyone wants to entertain. We urge the relevant authorities to heed our call, placing human life and environmental integrity above power supply. Please, sign this petition and join the call for a safer, nuclear-free future.
