I received some exciting and much-welcomed news yesterday from Stuart Grimley.
The proposed new offence the Grab and Drag has been added by the Victorian Law Reform Commissioner into the Inquiry on Improving the Response of the Justice System to Sexual Assaults.
This is an amazing achievement!
What does this mean? Well, it doesn't mean the Grab and Drag law is happening. Yet. But it does mean that the Victorian Government is considering it. But we need to convince them. Please, consider making a submission as someone who has signed this petition and urge the government to pass the Grab and Drag law
We may not have been able to change the outcome of the Jackson Williams case that would have seen him suitably punished for his crime but what we can do is demand the changes to the broken system that repeatedly hands down these dangerous lenient sentences, get this new offence approved and offer a greater sense of protection for Women as they walk our streets.
I will never accept the suggested notion that Jackson Williams' intention that morning may have been to rob that nurse. To me and many many other's... his intention was crystal clear!
The wording of the current laws is what failed the nurse get the Justice she so desperately deserved and allowed Jackson Williams to walk a free man.
This new offence will fill the much-needed gap of available sentences.
