The removal of WIN (What I Need) time from our school schedule jeopardizes the key opportunity for students to participate in clubs and extracurricular activities without impacting their academic obligations. As a student who thrived due to the flexibility WIN time offered, I am deeply concerned that the change could restrict access to essential student development opportunities.

Previously, WIN time provided an invaluable block during the school day for students to engage in clubs, study groups, or simply receive additional support in courses they found challenging. This unique time allocation was designed to cater to the diverse needs of students, allowing them to get involved without the stress of conflicting schedules.

Many students rely on WIN time to participate in activities that enhance their learning and personal growth. Now, with these activities pushed outside regular school hours, students who work part-time jobs, participate in sports, or face transportation challenges are unfairly disadvantaged, as they may not have the time or means to engage in activities critical to their personal and academic development. This shift creates unnecessary barriers to participation and equity.

Statistics from the National Center for Education Statistics reveal that students who participate in extracurricular activities are more likely to demonstrate higher grades, better attendance, and a stronger likelihood of pursuing further education. Without WIN time, these benefits are at risk of diminishing for a significant portion of the student body who can no longer fit these activities into their already packed schedules.

Our proposal is clear: retain WIN time within the school schedule to continue offering students the flexible opportunity to engage in these crucial activities. Other schools have successfully integrated similar programs, proving the positive impact it has on student development. Reinstating WIN time would not only enhance student engagement but also support an inclusive environment where all students have equal opportunities.
