Vertical World Redmond (VWR) has lost their lease by out of state landlords looking to turn a profit on a warehouse. After 30 years serving the Eastside climbing community VWR will close in Spring 2023.

The climbers of Vertical World Redmond are made up of locals from youths to senior citizens, from students to professionals, and spans a cross section of identities and cultures that truly represents the Eastside community. The one thing we all have in common is our passion for climbing. It is the community centered approach of Vertical World Redmond that provides a place for all these people to gather, meet, train, climb together, and to make friends. Additionally, VWR provides many youth programs which provides important after school activities that are healthful, teach discipline, confidence, strength and even competition.

Without VWR, where are all these people going to go? Where will we train, get stronger, and make new climber friends? Where are the youths going to train? What happens to the fabric of the Eastside climbing community without VWR to weave us all together? What happens to the remote workers that choose to call Redmond home for access to a local climbing gym and its community? Will they remain in Redmond, contributing to the local economy or will they pull stakes and look for another climbing community?

Furthermore, VW is a feeder of the local economy. Residents of neighboring towns come to Redmond for VW. While they’re here, they patronize other local Redmond businesses to dine and shop. If Eastside’s next VW location is outside Redmond we’ll see this trend reverse. We will we lose visitors from neighboring towns and Redmonders will be leaving town for climbing. Money will flow out of Redmond instead of flowing into Redmond. 

Now is the time for us to tell the City of Redmond's leaders what we think about this sudden and devastating loss to an amenity we truly cherish. Please sign this petition to send a strong message to the Redmond City Council that we want to keep Vertical World in Redmond!

There is no reversing the closure of the current location; that door has closed. However, a window is open for the City of Redmond to see the value in keeping Vertical World in Redmond.
