On May 29, 2025 at 12:50pm Glendale Parks and Recreation posted the following message and graphic on their various social media sites:

"As part of the Downtown Campus Reinvestment Project, the Murphy Park schematic design will highlight the park’s hardscape, lighting, and landscaping—all aimed at creating a more vibrant, safe, and welcoming environment in downtown Glendale.
Your voice matters. Help us shape the new and improved Murphy Park!

While this Community Engagement Public Open House says it is to focus on the new Murphy Park design, we all know that Velma Teague Library sits IN the center of Murphy Park and is currently directly up against the city hall & amphitheater construction site and we continue to be fearful that the over 1200 people who have signed this petition and the many, many others who have voiced the need to remodel and update the current Velma Teague Library will be ignored. As they are remodeling and updating City Hall, City Council Chambers, and the amphitheater it makes no sense why the same cannot be done to the existing Velma Teague Library, or that the city continues to be unwilling to do so.

It is EXTREMELY important to attend this meeting and listen closely to the information presented. We are unaware if this is the promised city community outreach regarding VTL or will simply be the construction company informing the citizens of Glendale of what will be done to Murphy Park or if the library is even included, however keeping Murphy Park a historic green space is equally important to so many Glendale residents. Historic, restoration, and beloved are not words that the Downtown Campus Reinvestment Project seems to want to include or understand.

Be ready to voice your opinion if we are informed that VTL is to be demolished or moved to the parking garage and please remember, if the public is allowed to speak on June 9, keep your words respectful and follow any guidelines that are given.

And by all means, if you still have a green SAVE MURPHY PARK t-shirt, be sure to wear it!
