During the 11.6.2024 Glendale City Council Workshop, this statement was made by one of the councilmembers…
“Over the last year there have been more and more residents coming to speak to the Council on items that are not on the agenda through our call to the public. I think that's wonderful. l love to hear from the residents, and I know the rest of the council does as well. One of the things that has concerned me recently is that when we're doing a call to the public as part of our official business meeting we have the list of rules that can be seen as taken away residents First Amendment rights. We also have a limited time of 3 minutes which has prohibited residents from completing their remarks they came prepared with. I would like to ask staff to come back with the way that we can remove the current call to the public from the official business meeting and instead hold a Citizens Forum directly after the adjournment of each voting meeting where there will be less restrictions on what the residents can say and to allow 5 minutes of speaking time instead of 3. Thank you.”
Is trickeration working overtime with the Glendale city council? By removing call to the public from the official business/voting meeting, citizens comments will be no longer part of the official record as the meeting will be adjourned. Will this allow any and all councilmembers, the mayor, and staff to leave the room upon adjournment and the voice of the people will fall on deaf ears…or worse yet, be filtered by staff to the city manager? This move will certainly have an impact on the citizens of Glendale who don’t trust city government to begin with if it is acted upon.
And regarding the final decision on the issue of keeping Velma Teague Library IN Murphy Park, per the city manager in the 10.22.2024 Glendale City Council workshop:
“We come forward and we give you a recommendation based on our assessment, but we recognize the final decision rest with the council.”
Exactly when will the Glendale City Council take the final vote on keeping Velma Teague Library IN Murphy Park or have all the councilmembers drunk the city manager’s Kool~Aid and will allow him to hide the VTL decision in the larger scope of the City Hall project plans and continue to ignore what the Glendale citizens want?
Perhaps it’s time for more letters to the Attorney General.
