Dear Supporters,

We’re pleased to share some encouraging progress on our campaign for safer pedestrian access along Strickland Avenue—progress that wouldn’t have been possible without your support.

Thanks to this petition and the strong community response, the issue has been clearly communicated to local council. While pedestrian improvements on Strickland Ave haven’t yet been given top priority, they have been flagged for development—a crucial first step. This is big jump from our initial queries with council, where it was stated that improvements were simply too expensive.

Here’s what’s happening:

  • Surveyors have been enlisted to help inform an initial design for a continuous pedestrian link along Strickland Avenue.
  • Recent improvements have also been made to the former bumpy track, which now provides smoother pedestrian and cycling access connecting Marlyn Road and upper Strickland Avenue. This is a positive development for active transport users in the area—what should we call the track now? The Pathway formerly known as Bumpy?

However, we are still without a dedicated pedestrian link along Strickland Avenue itself—something that remains urgently needed for safety, accessibility, and connectivity.

We invite you to keep the pressure on by continuing to speak up and let council know this remains a priority for our community. Every message counts.

If there are any local kids (or general dreamers) out there that wanted to send through a design to council depicting what a pedestrian link might look like, we think that would be a fun and engaging way to bring more attention to the issue. It might even help us to get some news coverage.

Thank you again for speaking up. Your voice is helping move this forward.

Warm regards,
Blake Nuto
