Keep Tyce Green Out of Houston Theatre
The Issue
The actions of Tyce Green have long plagued the Houston theatre community. Tyce Green has an extensive history of sexual abuse. He has preyed on his voice students and other impressionable young men dating back to the 2010s. Many of whom were underage at the time and many of whom still live in Houston. He would lure his victims in with his status, knowledge, connections, and prospects of vocal training then quickly turn the encounter sexual. Again, oftentimes the victims were underage at the time.
These interactions are documented in Facebook and Snapchat screenshots. The knowledge that Tyce Green is a sexual predator and abuser is common knowledge for anyone who grew up doing musical theatre in the greater Houston area.
When OnStage Blog published these allegations, compiled from dozens of victims, in April of 2018 Tyce Green issued an apology and admission of these actions. He has since had his legal team get the articles scrubbed from the internet. When victims have attempted to speak out, they are also met with threats of legal action. This is unfortunately yet another case of someone using their power and privilege not only to harm others but to control the narrative afterwards.
A certain amount of solace was found when Tyce Green left Houston, allowing the victims at least a little bit of space and time to heal and move on. However his return to the city with his company “Houston Broadway Theatre” has resurfaced many of these traumas. It is also unfortunate that Houston Broadway Theatre is championing "family friendly" shows and is looking to cast a minor in their upcoming production of The Falsettos knowing full well Tyce Green's history.
We are pleading for the Houston Theatre community to refuse to platform abusers. By signing this petition you stand with the victims as we ask for the following from Media Outlets, Theatre Professionals, Performance Venues, Patrons, and furthermore, any other victims that may still be out there.
Media: We request that any news or media outlet, online as well as print, not promote or review any productions associated with The Houston Broadway Theatre or its President Tyce Green. We request public statements from the media outlets that have platformed this company after this information has been made public such as Houston Press, Broadway World Houston, Houston Chronicle, and Playbill concerning this matter.
Theatre Professionals: We request that any Musician or Theatre Professional (actors, stage managers, run crew, designers, etc) not accept any contracts to any production that Tyce Green is involved with or with The Houston Broadway Theatre.
Venues: We request that any performance venue not provide rental agreements for, or allow The Houston Broadway Theatre use of your space for any of their operations, including but not limited to auditions, rehearsals, and performances. We also request public statements from the venues that have platformed this company after this information has been made public such as The Hobby Center and The Wortham Center concerning this matter.
Patrons: We request a full boycott of shows produced by The Houston Broadway Theatre. This includes any public or private events, paid or free.
Victims: We are compiling stories of more victims. If you have the capacity to, please send any experiences you have to HoustonTheatreTogether@gmail.com
I sincerely apologize for unearthing any trauma and it is my deepest hope that this will help to finally put an end to his influence in the city.
Lastly, the stories that I share here are not isolated to any one individual, and are shared by many others. Please show your support for the many victims. He should not be profiting and held in high regard in the public eye while so many he has harmed suffer.
