We ask Pima County to retain the full boundary proposed by the Tanque Verde Valley Association for the Tanque Verde Valley Special Area Policy.

The Tanque Verde Valley is a unique area where rural character, open space, wildlife habitat, ranching, equestrian activities, scenic resources, and established neighborhoods come together. The TVVA proposed a Special Area Policy (SAP) to help preserve these qualities and provide clearer community guidance for future land-use decisions.  Now Pima County is proposing to significantly reduce  the boundary by approximately 50–60%. 

TVVA believes this is far more than a minor boundary adjustment. Removing substantial portions of the Valley could mean that future rezoning, development, annexation, and other landuse decisions in those areas would no longer be guided by the SAP's community values and priorities.

Why the Special Area Policy Matters
The SAP does not stop development and it does not prevent annexation.

Instead, it provides decision-makers with a policy framework for considering the Tanque Verde Valley's unique character and community priorities when evaluating future land-use proposals. The original proposed boundary was intended to recognize the Valley as a WHOLE - not just selected portions of it.

We are asking Pima County to:

1. Retain the original SAP boundary proposed by TVVA.  
2. Recognize the Tanque Verde Valley as ONE cohesive community and landscape.  
3. Consider the Valley's rural character, open space, wildlife habitat, floodplains, washes, scenic resources, and equestrian and agricultural heritage in future land-use decisions.  
4. Work with TVVA and Valley residents before making significant changes to the proposed boundary.  

Why Your Voice Matters
The SAP remains under County review, and the proposed boundary can still be changed. The community has an opportunity to tell Pima County that a reduction of 50–60% is not a minor adjustment and that the original boundary best represents the Tanque Verde Valley community and the resources the SAP is intended to recognize.
