Keep the Speed Cameras in Brampton!

Keep the Speed Cameras in Brampton!
The Issue
We, the concerned residents and taxpayers of Brampton, Ontario, are calling for the continued expansion and support of speed enforcement cameras across our city to promote real safety, accountability, and peace of mind on our roads.
There are currently 150 speed cameras in Brampton, with that number expected to reach 185 by the end of summer 2025. These cameras are not about punishment — they’re about prevention. They protect lives by encouraging drivers to slow down, especially in vulnerable areas like school zones and residential streets.
Some have questioned why school zone cameras operate outside of typical school hours — but the answer is simple. Schools are active well beyond 9 to 3. Children attend night school, sports, after-school programs, and extracurriculars. Seniors and families use school grounds in the evenings and on weekends for walking, playing, or simply enjoying the community. Danger doesn’t disappear when the final bell rings — neither should our commitment to safety.
At a time when Brampton is growing fast and roads are getting busier, speed cameras offer consistent, unbiased enforcement without stretching police resources. They help protect working-class residents, seniors, and children alike — making our city safer for everyone.
We are human, not machines — and that’s exactly why we need smart tools that help prevent mistakes before they become tragedies. These cameras deliver fairness and accountability, not fear. Unlike random enforcement, automated systems apply the law equally to all drivers, every day.
We the undersigned, are advocating for the following:
- Continued installation and maintenance of speed cameras in high-risk zones
- Public reporting on revenue generated and reinvestment in safety initiatives
- Better public education about how automated enforcement works and why it matters
- A commitment from city officials to prioritize pedestrian safety over convenience
And finally — if you’re still against the cameras, the message is simple:
Don’t speed.
It’s time to say YES to safer streets. YES to protecting kids and seniors. And YES to a city where everyone can get home safe.
Support speed cameras. Brampton deserves it.
Signed,
The residents of Brampton
