Keep the signs displayed on our fence

The Issue

For many of us, our homes are not just buildings; they are canvases that reflect our identities and passions. Over the past several years, we have poured my heart, soul, and finances into transforming my fence into a vibrant outdoor gallery. Each sign and piece of art has been carefully selected or created, representing not only artistic expressions but also personal beliefs and community values.

However, this personal display is now under threat. Recently, we received a notice from our local code enforcement demanding the removal of the signs, citing community standards and aesthetics. It feels as though our freedom of expression is being stripped away, undermining the values of individuality and creativity that our community should stand for.

The signs on our fence are not just pieces of art; they are a dialogue with our neighbors and passersby, sparking conversation and connections in an increasingly sterile world. They have brought a splash of color and culture to our neighborhood, which many have appreciated and supported.

Removing these signs would not only silence this dialogue but also discourage others from expressing themselves freely. It sends a message that conformity outweighs creativity, and that our fences should remain blank and uninviting.

We urge the local authorities to reconsider their stance and allow our signs to remain. I propose introducing a process where residents can apply for permits to keep their artistic displays. By doing so, the council can ensure that the displays are safe and considerate of the community's overall aesthetics, while still fostering a culture that celebrates art and expression.

Please join me in advocating for our right to display these cherished pieces of art. Let's convince our council that our fences can be spaces of joy and inspiration for everyone. By signing this petition, you support not only our personal endeavor but also the right for everyone to freely express themselves in their own homes.
