Thank you for signing this petition and supporting the integrity of the referendum process. With at least two petitions and a letter writing campaign directed at the Electoral Commission for Scotland just hours after Osborne's announcement, the BT campaign is clearly worried. It wants to win by cheating but it doesn't want to be caught cheating; it is now attempting to circumvent charges of violating the terms of the Edinburgh Agreement and the SIRA by claiming that Osborne was just clarifying an offer made earlier this year. So let's put this into perspective. At the start of the referendum campaign: "Prime Minister David Cameron, ironically, vetoed a third ballot option for greater devolution, betting that the stark choice of yes or no to independence would deliver a clear victory for the status quo as cautious voters turned away from an uncertain future." http://uk.reuters.com/article/2014/09/07/uk-scotland-independence-osborne-idUKKBN0H207C20140907 Then, in February of 2012 Cameron conceded that: "Discussions on more powers can take place if Scotland stays in the UK". And in May of this year: The British government will start talks on granting Scotland more powers within a month of an independence referendum later this year if Scots choose to stay part of the United Kingdom, a government minister will pledge on Thursday.http://uk.reuters.com/article/2014/05/20/uk-scotland-independence-devolution-idUKKBN0E028820140520 The only thing on the table until now, was 'talks' about extra powers - quite a move from the 'status quo' that Cameron wanted a no vote to endorse! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-29099431 In this interview, Osborne has presented what is unmistakably a new offer - the 'new' plan to save the Union', touted by the BBC and in the Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph and the Independent newspapers. Journalists were briefed that is was a new plan and the media recognized and ran with it as such. Not details of 'talks' but an announcement of specific new policy ... and an electoral crime, a violation of law. (Even this announcement of a new announcement may be illegal in that it was designed to sway voters!) Alistair Darling addresses this to try to make it fall within the terms of the Independence Referendum Act by saying, "People have said, 'Yes we want to know the timetable and the process and that is something the government is going to announce this week." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-29105565 In other words, he claims this new announcement of new-old powers is not an announcement so much as an answer to a question posed by unspecified people. But the offer was 'talks' not a specific policy or promises of specific powers if people vote 'No'.. Are we to swallow the line that putting together a working party to come up with specific proposals at this late stage has nothing to do with an illegal attempt to add 'Max Devo' to the referendum unofficially? (Which would be impossible under the law.) We are being asked to accept that new powers are to be revealed in a plan being worked on right now, to be announced in the next few days but that all this is only answering questions about the timetable and specifics of 'talks'. We are told about a plan to save the union by persuading voters with a new offer but - if the Electoral Commission asks - it is only answering questions. BT to have wants to have their cake and eat it too! This announcement is intended to change the game and to sway the vote precisely as described and prohibited by the SIRA. The announcement of the announcement may already have done so and may be equally improper. It is a cynical, illegal and unworthy move. Please help to keep up the pressure by sharing the petition and getting others to sign - or to send their own letters to the ECS.
