The law in this matter is straightforward. The tactic being used by Westminster is illegal and coming after the postal ballots have been cast, it disenfranchises an entire section of Scotland's electorate. They were not give the chance to weigh up the promise of greater devolution before they cast their votes and voted without this information. This is precisely why the law was drafted so tightly - a prime example of what is wrong with changing the playing field four weeks before the final vote. Now, the rest of the electorate must be allowed to vote with precisely the information and the choices that were given to postal voters.
We may not be able to hold this government to account - after all, that's one reason why so many Scots support independence - but we can and should demand that they be prevented from employing this illegal tactic, or the one that will come after it or the one after that as they wake up to the sea change that has swept across Scotland and become increasingly panicked. Thank you for demonstrating that we will be holding our elected officials, our civil servants and our public bodies to account not just after the referendum but increasingly and without cease from here on.
